Such a shame that this is even being considered. They have supported us here in Crosshaven anytime we have asked for it. I hope this will fail to get handed over as we here and i m sure in other rural communities have so many other projects we need to get done.

Local Community Development companies have a proven record in delivering efficient and effective programmes to communities on behalf of the state, providing excellent value for money to the tax payer. These programmes offer communities a voice which could be lost under proposed changes. Why change what’s not broken.

Without Waterford Leader Partnership and TÚS, our voluntary group Fáilte Isteach, which aims at breaking down the barriers that migrants and communities face through conversational English classes would not be in existence today.

Martin Ferris · 21 mutual friends Hi Nicholas. While there are merits to some of the government’s proposals in “Putting People First”, removing the main function of the Local Development Companies certainly is not one of them. I believe that the LDC's should remain the applicant body for LEADER and the successor programme to the Local and Community Development Programme from 2014 onwards. It is mindboggling to think that while the EU Commission holds Ireland's community led model as an example to the rest of Europe to follow, our Minister is proposing to replace our example of best practice with the centralised version the Commission is so critical of. I support the sensible amendments as proposed by Dr Brendan O’Keeffe on behalf of the Irish Local Development Network. Sinn Féin councillors proposed such an approach at a meeting of Kerry County Council last year, along with a number of other councillors. Local Development Companies should retain their independence and be allowed to continue their brilliant work in our communities. 23 hours ago ·
