Another proposed initative that will further reduce any concievable chance for the unemployed person of ever achieving some kind of training or education to achieve a ghost of a chance of reemployment. This is merely another 'penny wise, pound foolish' psychology that will only lenghten the time span of making a dint in the umemployment figures.

The Local Development Companies have had acknowledged success in developing a bottom up approach to rural development, they have created linkages and networks throughout the communities they work in. All this experience and good will accrued sacrificed for what? A politicisation of LEADER funding, allowing Phil Hogan get his grubby hands and influence on it... its a shame.

i am totally against the politicization of community funding. Agreed that local government has to be strengthened but giving politicians exchequer and European money to dish out like snuff at a wake is not the way to do it. We have to move away from politics being a popularity contest where votes can be bought with grants. Rural and community development must be based on strategic and planned development based on identified and logical needs. Yes, local communities know what is needed and wanted in their areas, but this should not be left to politics to decide. Local community development partnership companies have over 20 years of established and recognised experience (EU Commission reports concur) in working with disadvantaged groups and communities to identify the needs in our local areas in a way that is equal and all encompassing. Let the professionals do what they do, let politics out of it.

SECAD were very supportive both personally and financially with my return to education to complete a Diploma in Rural Development. Meeting people from other backgrounds and regions who were funded through different local Development companies contributed enormously to the experience and made me realise the importance of such companies in local development. A special thanks to Nuala O' Connell of SECAD for her support and guidance.

Only for LEADER Grant funding I would not be open and bringing new business opportunities to people wanting to start a food business.

Local Development Companies are the heartbeat of communities, only an out of touch Government would even give consideration to sidelining them.

Let us take care of each other when we engage in meaningful relationships by learning, supporting and empowering all of our people, no matter what their cultural, political, sexual or social circumstances. I ask for support for Irish Local Development Companies who in dedicate their work to such good deeds.

I think that it is most important to hold on to the present arrangement as the group have worked hard to build up trust with the local agencies and service users.

As a former Board Member of West Limerick Resources Leader Company I am aware of the invaluable work, support and knowledge leader brings to Rural Development. I am totally opposed to Minister Hogan's plans to dissolve these Companies and let the Local Authorities administer the funding into the future. We need to stand up and fight the abolition and cuts to Leader Companies nationally.

The Local Development Companies provided the necessary supports for communities nurturing ideas and projects from ground the up. They continue to provide the supports necessary to revitalise and sustain rural enterprise and communities. It would be short-sightedness of the highest order if the local partnerships were to be disbanded.
