If this country is serious about getting back on its feet then it's vital that programmes like this continue. People need to regain an attitude of self worth. It's sad to see half the young people leave for other countries and even worse to see young fellas bouncing between the pub and the bookies on a "dole day" Wednesday and then looking for an "aul spare tenner" by 4 o, clock! Phone cables stolen, cars and houses broken into, etc. Idle hands. We desperately need organisations like the DLDC to help create employment and this negative knock-on effect. Young people need a sense of pride in themselves and in their communities. Now, post election, is the time to put the pressure on.

The invaluable support and funding we have received from DLDC has enabled us to provide learning support for a large number of children within our community, as well as much needed equipment and mentoring for our Men's Shed Project.

If it is not broken, why try and break it. The Irish LCD's are the most significantly successful connection between the Government and the Local Community and it has been a magnificent success, for God sake leave the decisions on the ground in the hands of the people who have the experience and the knowlege on how to deliver the funding where it is needed. It isn't broken, DON'T BREAK IT!!!

These LDC's are the voice of local people in issues of serious social significance. This bottom up approach has led to much sustainable development, at the delivery level and is still very much at a vulnerable stage of progress in the many Communities where these needs still exist.

IRD Duhallow does fantastic work in a wide Area. It is of tremendous benefit to many groups, clubs and communities. It would be a major loss.
