The work done by local development companies is incredibly valuable. These companies are close to the communities and understand them and their needs far better than councils ever will. It is essential that funding strategies stay with these companies.

A lot of development projects benefit hugely from local knowledge. That's why it's so important that development funding is kept local, supporting local interests with on the ground knowledge. The bottom-up approach of LDCs cannot be as well served by councils.

As a secondary teacher in the ETB system, the support we get from our local development company is invaluable to our Transition year Programme. Students have been involved in an Intergenerationa project where they were able to teach computers to older people. Any projects like this that improve the skills of students are invaluable to their education.

They presence and work in our communtities are vital and very productive to activating small businesses, rural areas, training and support for future entrepreneurs. Without them some towns and counties would feel lost and empty.

County Wicklow Partnership are a fabulous resource for County Wicklow and their work is irreplaceable, from training courses to financial support for worthy projects. It would be impossible to replace or replicate the work and experience of their staff

Local partnerships are an integral part of the framework for community development. Their contribution should not be assessed on price but on expertise and passion for supporting the disadvantaged and marginalised.

Hi to the powers that have the influence to maintain this funding stream managed by Ballyhoura. I am involved in a number of initiatives which received lifeblood funding from Ballyhoura from the Leader funding. These projects have sustained communities and saved individuals many of whom are marginalized. Any decision to move funding mgt to local and city councils will have a devastating effect on local communities. Please please reconsider and leave this funding steam with Ballyhoura..

Local Development Companies are crucial in Rural Ireland in their role as facilitators for strong voice, involvement and empowerment in communities based on a bottom up approach. The companies have acquired priceless expertise over the past 20 years and are an integral part and driver of community based projects.

A level of expertise and knowledge has been built up that Ireland should build on: in particular if Ireland is to address social and economic exclusion in a meaningful way.
