So disappointed by this decision. And frankly befuddled. Also understand that Art in the Barn was also denied a permit? C'mon.

Congratulations, and I hope you get live music to celebrate. I'm not into the creativity-squelching that goes on around here....sheesh!

Tired of watching my home town slowly die...I'd also love to offer my services to field any complaints on the night of the wedding.

Denying Drew and Justin music just plain stupid, and it’s hurting Essex businesses. Who wants a wedding or any other event without music? If music isn’t allowed, Riversbend and presumably every other restaurant in town will be locked out of the outdoor wedding/event scene. That means lost income not only to those venues, but to many other businesses in town that would benefit from guests staying in local hotels/inns, eating in local restaurants and shopping in local shops. All of it gone because the Town won’t allow music at outdoor venues? Yes, the music may be heard by some people in the area. What makes this so absurd is that any one of those people could host an outdoor event with music on their own property, music that would be heard be all their neighbors, and that would be totally acceptable. But because it’s a business, they can’t do that?! What?! Come on, Essex, this is beyond absurd. Let Drew and Justin have music at their wedding and let venues host outdoor functions with music going forward. Limit it to certain times - 9:00 pm is not unreasonable - and limit it to weekends in if makes everyone happy. But don’t deny Drew, Justin and all Essex businesses this opportunity.

We need to make a policy that works.

This is the dumbest thing ever not to allow a live band at a wedding for 1 day. Essex is such a kill joy, I hope you win!

This decision by the select board is anti business, anti people, anti quality of life, anti music and anti common sense. No one is asking for Woodstock here. How could anyone be against well moderated outdoor music entertainment?

Essex needs to stop being so stuffy and rigid.

Shame on the BOS. Essex used to be fun. Reggae outside on the deck every summer Friday night at Callahan's, Sunday bands on the deck of Conomo Cafe, music at Essex Marina for weddings under the Lufkin ownership. Issue the permit.

This looks like pretty blatant homophobia/prejudice against gays driving this decision.
