The commissioners actually listened and voted to keep the road open just the way it is which is honestly such a huge relief. I am still processing the fact that we do not have to worry about locked gates or losing access to the canyon anymore. We really pulled this …

Letter to the editor: Help keep CR 183 open for the public

Posted: Wednesday, Feb 6th, 2013
By Hugh and Rosie Dowers and family, Hawk Springs

This letter for support is for everyone who has enjoyed time in Lone Tree Canyon as a guest of Hugh and Rosie Dowers. If you have spent time in this scenic canyon day hiking, camping, picnicking, attending weddings, church services or family reunions, gathering for special holiday celebrations or just visiting Hugh and Rosie, please help us keep this country road open.

There is a petition filed on Jan. 4, 2013 to vacate County Road (CR) No. 183. This county road was established in the 1930s and used for many years to access the canyon. A neighboring landowner has alleged the road to be overused, a hazard and a liability issue.

The petitioners propose to consent to a private road, but we are opposing that due to the fact that we have experienced no problems with the current county road into the canyon.

According to Wyoming statute, a private road could have a locked gate on it so, of course, we adamantly disagree with that happening. If CR No. 183 remains opened, we would ask for minimal maintenance from the county, because it has proven to be a low-maintenance road for years.

Change is not always an improvement. Please help us keep a small part of our world accessible for you to enjoy by writing a letter of support and/or calling County Commissioner Carl Rupp, who has been assigned as visitor of this petition.

Commissioner Rupp’s contact information is as follows:

We sincerely appreciate your time and consideration in this matter and thank you in advance for your support.

This dirt road leads into Lone Tree Canyon in Goshen County, WY - Home to Hugh and Rosie Dowers. This is a county road, which has required minimal maintenance by Goshen County Road and Bridge Department for numerous years. By signing this petition, I am in support of making no changes to this county road and am opposed to making it a private road.

I was just out by the canyon entrance thinking about how quiet it really is back there despite what they are claiming about the traffic. It is honestly bizarre to see people talk about hazards when all I see is the same road we have used for generations without any real issues at all. We are working on getting more face time with the commissioners because they need to understand that this is not just some path for a few people but a place that actually matters to all of us.

I honestly cannot stop checking my phone because the amount of support pouring in for the canyon road feels like a literal miracle even if I am still stressed about the commissioner meeting. It is just wild to think about all those memories people have shared in the comments and I really hope these people who want to lock us out can see that this path belongs to all of us.

WOW Cathie Wood holds these stocks for triple-digit upside — and they're on sale. Stable dividend stocks are great for the risk-averse. But for investors looking to add some pop to their portfolios, nothing beats the long-term upside of rapidly expanding growth stocks.

The EU's medicines regulator says unusual blood clots should be listed as a very rare side effect of the AstraZeneca vaccine for Covid-19. After a study looking at 86 European cases, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) concluded the benefits of the vaccine outweighed the risk.

My family has been using that road for generations. It is a shame that one person can just try to shut it down for everyone else. Leave it alone.

THATS ridiculous. We have had so many good memories out there. Locking a gate would be a total disaster for local folks who actually use the land.

Been driving that road since the 80s and never had a single issue. Why change something that works fine?
