BAD BUSINESS DECISION ! I hope those of you board members can live with yourselfs after you let what happened to Jody. You just dont fire your best employee ( my opinion ) One who has given 19 years of service to Yolo Hospice. A person with high marks on every evalation for the past 19 years. A person who makes it all work with the staff. A person who makes the staff around her better. A person who lives Yolo Hospice. A person who connects well with the community. A person who is well respected in the community. BAD BUSINESS DECISION !

I support a review of her termination. This is indeed unfortunate for Yolo Hospice, and unfair to Jody Norton.

We can't give you enough comfort at the moment because you've been crumbled to pieces but I want you to know how grateful I am to have you as a mentor when I started at YH, an area of nursing where it's so different and new to me. You turned me and molded me into not just a caring nurse but a different person, you planted the "heart of hospice" in me. You made me able to get through difficult situations , you made me succeed and embrace the glory of being a hospice nurse. I think YH is the best workplace I've ever been. Voices are heard here, but now, a lot of our co-workers are scared to speak for it may cause their jobs, and they have families to feed and kids to send to school. This is not a good feeling. When the pt's families asks me how I am able to do my job, I answer them, " because I have the best and supportive boss, (with you in my mind)". Knowing I can call you and discuss anything with you made me confident as a hospice nurse. Ever since the day you interviewed me to get this job, I already knew you are the nurse I wish to become someday, caring with a heart, knowledgeable, experienced with superb critical thinking, and your management style is very family centered, just to name a few. This is Yolo Hospice that I've known. Family centered. YH team can deliver the very best care to other families because our own family is well cared for by YH. I wish the same courtesy will be extended to you, the one who cares for YH nurses, the deliverer of care to our patients.

ok let me get this straight. The director of patient care is unanimously respected, maintained culture through all these recent changes . Then one man comes from across country, and says she is not capable, the board believes this, allows her to be fired not looking at her 19 years of respected compassionate care . Who are we, who would believe this one man? This is simply unbelievable. Always have been proud to work here until now.

Since my start at Yolo Hospice Jody has been the backbone of the organization. When I started with Yolo Hospice, the company did not have a director. They did not have any accounting personnel. Jody stood up and took on the role of these individuals, as asked by the company (i.e., The Board). Day in and day out Jody went above and beyond to do her job. Never once did I see her stop smiling. Never once did I see her stop offering to take on more. Jody took on these responsibilities to make sure the company continued to survive. Jody's SINCERE love and passion for this career, and for this organization, is more than I have ever seen from any manager. I hope the board recognizes how detrimental Craig's decision is.
This decision has created the most anxious, uncertain, and depressed work environment I have ever worked in. The environment created by Craig is unhealthy and not conducive for Yolo Hospice to survive and thrive.
The staff does not know everything that occurs behind closed doors, but we know good people when we are around them and Jody is one of them. No one is perfect, and we recognize that, but Jody did not deserve this.
Many people are terrified they will lose their job. Many people are actively looking for a new job. What a scary place to be!
The Yolo Hospice everyone knew is gone. It's heart and soul has been removed.
Sincerely,
An employee who has lost hope in this organization

When I learned that Jody had been terminated I was stunned; it was
abrupt and so sad. I felt a sense of loss that was like the loss of learning
a dear friend had died. The first time I met Jody was at my volunteer
training, she was part of the instructional staff. She was radiant. She looked like I might imagine an angel. Although my contact with Jody has been infrequent and limited my impression has continued. Others who have worked with her daily certainly know her more fully. Earlier
I wrote that I thought Jody was the "heart" of Yolo Hospice and I
still believe that she has embodied the spirit of compassion that is the basis of hospice care.
I too attended the board meeting and was frustrated by the refusal to
allow some discussion of Jody's termination. I thought Piper read
a strong endorsement of Jody as a valued colleague. She was eloquent.
But there was no follow up and the only outlet for our frustration was Craig's invitation that his "door was open."
Today I went to see Craig and we had a long talk. He told me
among other things that one of the nurses had read my comment about Jody being the "heart" of the organization and found it offensive . "What about me?" she had asked him. Craig asked me, "Aren't we all the heart of Yolo Hospice?"
Last night a few of us gathered out front and discussed our perceptions and feelings. One person mentioned that her concern was for 1)Yolo Hospice and 2)for Jody. Put in that order caused me to reflect on my
priorities.
Craig told me that in his 24 years of employment this was probably the most difficult decision he has had to make. He said he consulted several others. It was done carefully over several weeks and the reasons for it
were substantial. I was not provided details of what happened, because of confidentiality of personnel matters which was the same thing we were told last night.
I found Craig to be sincere, and as open as he could be given legal constraints.

There exists a spirit in hospice care that is becoming diminished in the Hospice "industry" of today. Jody Norton exemplifies that spirit. Above all, Jody can be counted on to defend the patient first, compassionate, and clinically expert care delivered in a spirit of loving service. At great sacrifice to her own well-being Jody has been stood by those principles that define Hospice as it was meant to be for 19 years. I can not believe that here exists energy within Yolpo Hospice that would want to dminsh something that has defined it so well for 19 years. I support Jody Norton and would call upon the Board of Directors to vigorously investigate the circumstances that led to her termination and to very seriously consider what the fall-out of this decision will be if they were to believe that this action s even remotely justified.

Jody is an amazing nurse and woman, she is the heart of YH and has given her heart and soul to YH, Jody was instrumental in my training as a new hospice nurse, she is always positive, caring, compassionate, sincere and honest. I was stunned when I heard that some newby CEO that has no experience about hospice and what it takes to be a compassionate hospice nurse. YH will never be the same this man crushed the life out of hospice when he let Jody go, I do not see YH succeeding this man signed YH death certificate

I have known Jody all of her life and, during the years, we have had numerous conversations regarding her commitment to Yolo Hospice and her endeavor to carry out its purpose of helping each individual have the choice and care needed at the end of their life. She has devoted her life to that commitment and deserves a review of her dismissal.

I have made 3 attempts to HR J Ravarra to met with her to discuss why she wanted to speak with me on 1/26/15 at 5:30 pm, by blocking the door to the room were the board meeting was to take place. She stated that it was important to met with me and I told I was not available at that time. On 1/27 and 1/28 I had made attempts. She was not responded to me. So much for open door policy. I guess it is only for employees who agrees with Craig. My position at Yolo Hospice was per deim RN 2 day/mo as an ON CALL RN. Since I had made a comment that the He had taken the Heart out of Yolo Hospice, he has malign me to my supervisor and staff. I no longer can work at establishment that as no integrity. If he can do this to a perdiem RN you can imagine what he has done to Jody. I want to thank you for your support and maybe some day Yolo Hospice can find some peace

I am shocked to hear this news. I have always known Jody to be professional at all times. She is an amazing nurse and a wealth of knowledge. She epitomizes the "heart" of the work that drew me to this work and has kept me at Yolo Hospice for eight years. For all her years of faithful service, she deserves to have a review and reconsideration of the circumstances leading to this action.

Reading these comments, especially those who worked directly under Jody reaffirm what I have always known about her. Jody is a caring, dedicated, and passionate nurse, with the references and evaluations to back it up. There is something fishy going on here...
