The Ohio Historic Tax Credit has saved so much of our cultural heritage, but more than that it has provided jobs, saved energy and natural resources.

Restoring & repurposing buildings that are architectural gems makes economic sense & creates new jobs. Keep this tax credit!.

I strongly oppose the 2 year suspension of the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit. There are so many projects in Ohio that depend on these tax credits. Please reconsider!

Suspending the historic preservation tax credit will make redevelopment in Ohio's cities even harder than it already is, which will increase both urban decay and sprawl. Please do not disincentivize adaptive reuse projects. Not only are they more environmentally friendly, but they also promote the dynamic, dense, walkable communities that Ohio cities rely on to thrive.

Ms. Erdman,
I am writing today to voice my deep concern about the Finance Committee's consideration of suspending the State Historic Tax credit. Members of the committee need to know that this "credit" actually generates more tax revenue for the state than it expends. Annually, this funding incentivizes developers to invest in the renovation of our cultural icons and historic structures. Without this incentive, many if not all of these projects would be eliminated along with the jobs that are created, not to mention the tax revenue that is created through the appreciation of once dilapidated properties. Ohio has a large number of buildings that have historical significance which qualify for this credit and annually spur local investment (jobs) for contractors, skilled tradesmen, electricians, engineers, architects, landscape architects, interior designers, real estate professionals, bankers, lawyers, artists, equipment manufacturers and furniture manufacturers and vendors. Additionally, investments in these buildings upgrade building systems to reduce energy use...a directive by Ohio to eliminate our reliance on coal burning energy sources.
I implore the Finance Committee to take this off of the table and maintain the Historic Tax Credit.

Other states have tried this. Do we want to become the next Michigan? No.
There are many, large upcoming projects that will NOT work without tax credits. Those potential jobs will not be created. Those potential employed workers will not spend their money in the local economies. Those potential millions of dollars of investment will not be spent here in Ohio. That is too much lost potential.

This proposed action action is anti-jobs and contrary to everyone's efforts to bolster economic-development across Ohio. Short sighted and bad public policy.

Eliminating these tax credits would be a massive blow to communities across the state attempting to retain their historic building stock via this program.

This tax credit is enormously important to our regional and state economy, suspending the program would result in a net economic loss here and for the state.

This program is a lifeline for saving our aging but beautiful urban core buildings and revitalizing neighborhoods throughout Ohio.

The Historic Preservation Tax Credit returns $ to the state on a 1:7 ratio. For every $1 of State Tax Credit, $7 in reinvestment, jobs, taxes, etc. come back to the state.
