  • Las Cruces, New Mexico has only one enclosed lap swimming pool to serve 150,000 citizens.
  • On September 8th, the pool hours will be cut by 50%.
  • Today, August 28, 20202, Governor Michelle Lujan-Grisham lifted COVID restriction The state and Dona Ana County have met milestones for relaxing restrictions.
  • Swimming is a healthy sport. Social distancing and chlorine disinfectant reduce or eliminate the threat of transmission.
  • Instead of reducing the hours of operation, we request that the City of Las Cruces expand the hours until the new indoor pool is complete.
  • We the undersigned ask the city to expand the number of hours that Frenger pool is in operation. We suggest Monday to Friday 5:30am - 7:30pm; Saturday 7:00am - 7:00pm.

Updates

August 29, 2020

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many people care about keeping the pool open. This movement grew way beyond anything I imagined and it is entirely because of your own efforts to look out for our community.

Allow pools to stay open. Practice social distancing, masking in and out of the facility and hand washing. Most can avoid locker room use altogether if they wear suits to & fro home. Easy.

I'm a 64 year old retired Pediatrician. Swimming is safe during the Pandemic, and keeps me sane! Please expand the hours. Thanks!!

Las Cruces is/was very high on my list of towns I want to live in for retirement. However, having access to year round lap swimming is high on my list of factors.

Swimming is a healthy exercise that keeps everyone happy and content in the face of restrictions. I am a former USMS Vice president 8 years, Committee chairman for 12 years, continue to be a swimmer for 63 years.

Pools have never been cost effective but they make up the deficit by providing healthy activity for all ages of the community.
