John will never stop or give up. Fact. And neither will we.

Mr. Quesnel is a hard working, community minded individual performing a needed service for the community and I'm whole heartedly behind his venture and always have been for the 24 years I've been on Saltspring.

The TUP is not about shutting SaltSpring Island Metal Recycling down it's about moving the business. That's all it has ever been about. Period. This business is currently located smack dab in the middle of a rural residential neighbourhood. Almost every one of the neighbours have been in the Pallot Way community before Mr. Quesnel purchased a home there and turned it into a full on metal recycling, car crushing, appliance collecting, scrap metal recovery, electronic waste depot and potentially a transfer station. A business of this magnitude, breadth and environmentally invasive nature DOES NOT belong in the middle of a community surrounded by family homes, farms and retirement properties. This http://www.saltspringmetalrecycling.ca/ does not belong in anyone's neighbourhood. We need to find a permanent solution to this problem not another temporary one. Noting that this has moved far past temporary. This business has been operating illegally for eight very long years. It has never had a permit. Each and ever time it has come up for re-zoning, either temporarily or permanently, it has been voted down. It clearly does not belong in in it's currently location. I urge you to look at the website, if you own land or your home and are 100% sure, and can convince 100% or your neighbours, to have this business as your next door/across the street/in your backyard neighbour then, by all means, sign the petiton. If you are NOT willing to be this business' neighbour then you CANNOT ask his current neighbours to be. DON'T sign the petiton. We need a solution and this TUP is not it.

What would we do without John Quesnel?? Seriously, when my son's car broke down he was there to pick it up within ten minutes. When we didn't know how to remove a camper on our property, he was there to remove it and recycle it in a professional and responsible way. The man is always fair. Do we really want to go back to when people threw items off Mt Maxwell? When I lived up north people got rid of their old car by pushing them over mountains into the bush.

I believe john is doing a favour to saltspring. It's a good location in my mind.

Ms Moroz would like you to believe that I affect her life in way that is unbearable but the truth is she rents at the very end of Pallot way in the old Luke Harrison house and has a bookkeeping business in Ganges that would have her at work during business hours. My business only operates from 8 till 5 during the week and 10 till 4 on Saturday. I do nothing business related outside of those times. Many of you may not know who Luke was but he was one of the CHARACTERS of Salty in the day. Right in Ms Moroz’s back yard is Luke’s old auto wrecking yard; there are still approximately 20 old vehicles there resting in pieces leaking and rotting into the ground. I was told he squished cars there several times way back when. He also had a laundromat on this same property. There is not a snowballs chance in hell that she is disrupted by my operation in any way, this is a personal vendetta that she will not let go much like Andrew Gardener. Mr Gardener owns the corner lot on the right side of the Pallot Way intersection. There is a brick building on the lot that is clearly visible from the road; this building was the location for Pallot Electric and was used for a commercial business. Mr. Gardener currently has the same building rented out for commercial use as a Woodworkers shop. I hear them working from my recycling yard and no I don’t complain at all. It would be well within my rights to complain to the Islands Trust and have them shut down this operation yet I understand that we need these sorts of businesses so why make it tough for the renter to spite the person causing me harm. Ms Moroz states that it is a valued business and it’s only the location that is so wrong. The thing is there is no place that I can just move to and go to work. Every single one of the prospective lots identified by the Islands Trust would require rezoning. My property, as well as my angry neighbours’ property, is located less than 600 meters from the highest level of industrial zoned land

The type business provided by John on this Island is vital to the very health of this community. If anyone out there cares as much about a health conscious community, then they would see ' Salt Spring Metal Recycling' as a necessity for all of us. Without this free service, this entire Island would still be filled with countless rusted cars, trucks, buses and campers etc.. in every yard due to the high cost of off Island removal. Please support your community with the very few free services it provides.

This is a service we all need directly or indirectly, it benifits this community as a whole and we should all be a little more accepting if every effort to address concerns have been met. One just never knows when one may want to open up a home based business, workshop etc someday.
