As a home owner on ssi, I see huge value for our community in fostering local sustainable businesses such as this one. The space proposed is not suitable for residential.

It is well worth the listen and I will be releasing my files over the next couple of days to show what a dog and pony show the IT really is.
And right smack dab in the middle of a long established (almost all of John's neighbours were there before he bought a HOME) rural residential neighbourhood. How does what you've said make it okay to put a businesses such as SSIMR in the middle of a residential neighbourhood?

This is a very much needed service here on the Island and making it difficult for it to function is just passing the buck and makes people dump old cars and metal in the bush!

Absolutely! Down with the NIMBY syndrome. Let's pick your back yard!
Debbie are you going to be okay with having this http://www.saltspringmetalrecycling.ca/ in your back yard? Or your side yard, or across the street? 24/7/365 and all the associated traffic, noise, pollution that goes along with it? Every day? Are you also okay with the resultant decrease in your property values because you now live next door to a junk yard and potentially a garbage dump?
If you and your neighbours are willing to have this business in your neighbourhood, in your back yard then maybe we should talk ... we have the deal for you!
Remember, this isn't about shutting SSIMR down it's about moving it. It needs a friendly place to land, it has outstayed it's welcome where it currently is.

Have u ever been up our buitifull mountains on a nice sunny Sumer day you hear something in the distance must be a deer , no just two guys dumping a old washer and dryer because the economy sucks and they can't afford ferry fare to get rid of there old junk without salt spring metal recycling there will be a lot of deer up the mountain

No one is trying to stop him. This is about where it is not the service it provides. And this isn't about one or two people, this is about a whole neighbourhood. A whole community of people, almost all of them having been in the area much longer than John, that have bought homes and a personal investment in our neighbourhood. A business such as John's has no place being smack dab in the middle of a rural residential neighbourhood. We don't need (another) temporary solution, we need a permanent one and allowing industrial businesses in our neighbourhoods is not it.
This is about moving the business NOT about shutting it down.

Every time re-zoning this property/business has been brought before the Islands Trust they have voted NO. SSIMR has always refused to comply with the ruling and operated in defiance of the decision. The business has been operating illegally for over 8 years! The business needs to move to a more appropriate location, if there are requirements to meet that's the one.

As a frequent visitor to Saltspring I have been witness to John Quesnel's business sight. It is clean, well run. and beneficial to maintaining an Island which remains free of, old metals.
