Thank you to all the board members and school staff for keeping kids safe and following the science. Let’s focus on health guidelines and not listen to these political groups trying to sow confusion and distrust.

While people may differ on Covid mitigation strategies, there should be no disagreement on the earnest, diligent efforts of our D39 school board VOLUNTEERS.

Thank you for continuing to carefully consider the pandemic impact on kid’s safety, psychological wellness, community transmission rates, vaccination statistics, applicable law and taxpayer implications to this important decision and timing around reducing COVID-19 mitigation measures. Please do not be swayed by the very small minority of (mostly) non-D39 parent anti-public school activists who are simply using this issue to sow division and attempting to manufacture a crisis in confidence about public school leadership. These same malcontents oppose diversity & inclusion, seek to undermine tax funding for efficient and effective public school system, and this is simply their latest ploy to stir up controversy where there has in fact been very little. That this is coming to a head as public health conditions warrant a long look at finally relaxing mitigation tactics (something every parent longs for) is simply a case of of a handful of broken clocks being right twice a day. Thanks for all you do. -Dave Hyser

Contrary to the very small minority of very loud voices, polls show the vast majority of parents stand with the school board in favor of mask mandates in schools. I stand with the board. Keep the mandate.

This has been an incredibly difficult and stressful past two years and the school board and staff have done a tremendous job of making the best out of a bad situation. We have been fortunate enough to keep our household Covid free, and now we are all fully vaccinated. We truly appreciate the effort that district 39 has made to make this possible for our family. We stand behind the board and staff in continuing to maintain all Covid mitigations until all families have the opportunity to vaccinate their children and it is safe for all children, including preschoolers and immunocompromised students, to remain in person. Thank you!

Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to keep our children safe over these past two years. I appreciate your continuing support in keeping all the students in the district safe. While I’m relieved that my children are fully vaccinated, I truly feel for parents of children under the age of 5 and immunocompromised children who are once again being left behind by those who only care for their own political agenda. Please stay strong and know that you have our support. We certainly look forward to being able to see smiling faces in the future, but not until we can ensure that everyone will have a smiling face.

I do hope that until it is safe for all students and teachers, especially those immunocompromised individuals who won’t be able to attend in person if masks are optional, that we continue to be a community that sees all our staff and students. I understand that we cannot live in a bubble or avoid all risks, but transmission rates are still considered code red and now is not the time to go mask optional. Furthermore, the IDEA of 1975 grants all students the right to a public education on par with their abilities in a classroom setting. A mask optional environment seems in violation of those rights.

Students of all ages should be required to mask through the end of this school year, at the least. They should also be required to get the COVID vaccine, if they are eligible.

We appreciate you holding strong and following the science, guidelines, and metrics. My mother, Holly Berman, was on the school board in years past and I know the passion and commitment to our students, schools, and community that goes into this work. Thank you so much for your time and efforts. Thank you for your support of our teachers and staff. Thank you for taking the time away from your families to help enhance the lives or ours.
