The unprofessional and unethical nature of 12 month contracts for small businesses in OSHC should be banned.
These small businesses work hard to provide a community service yet have the constant stress of having their annual contract not renewed. This decision makes it difficult for the owners to inject limited resources into the service, for children, families, schools and educators to feel connected to one another without the promise of a long term relationship.
The fear is also that the planned monopoly of the Maitland Newcastle diocese to St Nicholas is driven by financial reasons and not what is best for each individual school community.

What is most disappointing is the total lack of communication and transparency. Decisions have been made without community consultation, replacing a wonderful asset to our school community. Bureaucratic decisions made with financial motives will never successfully replace a loved and cherished organsation in our school. Corporate takeovers in a school settings never bode well, especially when a community is so happy with their current providers of care for our most important asset, our kids. I strongly object to this lack of respect, transparency and communication to our wider community. The diocese needs to understand the implications of decisions made without community consultation.

Our boys love the KCA team and it’s clear that KCA are heavily invested in the Children and school community. A very disappointing decision that has been incredibly poorly managed. This should be reversed immediately before it’s too late and we loose a valuable asset at SJPS.

Parents must be consulted on their preferences. As mentioned, relationships have been formed and OOSH providers become a family away from home. A clean sweep like this is unfortunately just another unnecessary hurdle children are made to deal with in life.

I have worked with KCA since it began I have seen it grow and triple in numbers. The children are always excited to be there and engaging in activities that have been suggested by the children.

Please accept this signature as an invitation to reconsider your decision regarding the replacement of kca at st josephs Merewether with the new provider St Nicholas. I have had nothing but positive experiences with kca staff and my children are very attached to them. This will be traumatic for the children to have to adjust to a new provider. The kids have helped create the kca space and made if their own only to now see it dismantled. The food choices are healthy and the staff deliver caring and personal attention to each and every family and child. I removed my child from a St Nicholas provider a few years ago due to the impersonal and franchised environment and I cannot support this transition suggested by catholic schools administration

This sort of behaviour goes against all the findings of the royal commission, building trust and relationships with the community and being transparent. Why would we want to send our children to a centre where people treat others so poorly? What example is this setting for our children?

Absolute disregard for the operators and families involved. Catholic Church you cannot afford to do this, your reputation is already severely damaged within the community. Do the honourable thing and reverse your decision immediately.

This is outrageous. Putting a local small business out of business with 3 weeks notice is not on. Not to mention the impact on our kids. KCA have operated perfectly and care and about kids to a fault.

KCA is a fabulous caring service who care for my grand children both after school and in vacation times and it’s obvious they are genuinely interested in the children. Please leave this excellent service in place.
