The small businesses in Burien need all the support and encouragement we can get. I love Burien and was looking forward to having a flourishing shop when I opened Welcome Home-Design and Decor, in 2019. But it is a struggle to stay open. Being closed for COVID-19 was devastating, but now that we are open again, there are still struggles. A fear of the results of crime does not help.

We support our local businesses and residences to build safe economic development in our community. After the time and money the city and businesses have invested in developing Burien in the past 10 years, its incredible to me why this would even be an issue. You solicited good businesses, and increased the value of our community and real estate, now keep it, protect it and continue to build it. This includes NOT building a homeless housing center in Burien. Thank you.

I will sign this petition but who is this petition going to? Who is sending to the Burien City Council? Lately I have been the only voice at council meetings voicing my concerns for Burien and I have felt no support from my city. Please know I am very concerned for the future of Burien but I highly suggest more vocalization at Council meetings.

It's time to figure out where to get the funds to hire extra officers. This is ridiculous!!

With businesses carrying the economic health of the City, they deserve to have the police support they pay for.

Those of who pay taxes and keep this community thriving often feel left behind and unheard. It is time the city council supports those who invest in and make our community great. Crime and drug use needs to be reduced and building a DESC homeless hotel will only further the problem. Protect your residents and local business owners.

The first and most important responsibility of city government is the safety of its citizens. City Council members please remember this when making budget decisions for our beautiful city.

In our experience, underreporting of crime, by victims and police, has resulted in denial of the magnitude of the escalating crime problem by elected leaders and, consequently, underfunding. Victims don’t report crime, because they think the police won’t do anything, and police don’t file reports, because they believe there will be no consequences for the criminals who won’t be prosecuted. So it is a vicious cycle. Criminals need to be prosecuted and make reparations to their victims. Otherwise, they become emboldened and escalate to higher-level crimes.

As a local business owner I have witnessed many times the destruction of our building by people literally using it for their bathroom, dumping their garbage, shooting up in the open, berating and harassing patrons, etc. Police have been called only to have no one show up or show up long after the person has moved on leaving nothing to be done. I honestly believe that there is a time and place for police help and this is one of them. Confronting people is not only unsafe but they know there's nothing that will happen and just laugh at you. We need more officers for safety.

For a better life, better business and less crime in Burien. Treat your citizens and businesses as they wanted to be treated!

Another land use up for vote by council on Monday should also be opposed. The DESC homeless hotel will allow drug dealers/use right in town & will further problems.
