I worked for several years at this wonderful college. My husband got his JD at Northwestern school of law and then worked there as Associate Dean of Career Services. I am appalled to see such lack of tolerance in a place where I enjoyed and celebrated all types of diversity. On the other hand, look at how many rallied to support those that have been offended. That is a truly WONDERFUL thing!

This is so frustrating and heartbreaking and unacceptable. To the black students at Lewis and Clark and everywhere, you are important, you matter, you are just as worthy as anyone else to receive education without fear and to be acknowledged as equal, and you should not have to face such scary and belittling actions. I am white and I recognize that that gives me privilege that I did not earn. I stand with you as we work towards a more equal world in which that is not the case.

As an alumni of Lewis and Clark, it saddens me to see racism still is present in the student community. I offer my support to all students hurt by this incident. When I attended L&C a few years ago, I was hoping that after I left, the campus administration would address classism, racism and other forms of oppression on campus - but it seems to still have a way to go. Thank you to the students that are standing up for what is right!

These racist threats are unacceptable and must be taken seriously. We ALL need to do our part to ensure our community is safe and as faculty we must work actively to create an anti-racist and inclusive education. As a member of the Graduate School Faculty, I commend the proposal outlined in the Open Letter to Institutionalize Diverstiy and am ready to do my part.

Such racism- either from malicious or 'troll' intent is not conducive to the learning environment of LC.
