Support for APA’s Development of Clinical Practice Guidelines

It's great to see APA taking a step in the right direction.

Without more formal guidelines, many lay audiences (e.g., policy makers, insurance companies, and the general public) may misunderstand the field's stance on empirically supported treatments. Additionally, as we have historically observed, specific research studies will continue to be "cherry picked" to further one's political or financial agenda (at the expense of countless hours of valuable research). This must not continue to happen. Through the establishment and continued support of these guidelines, we will have more tools in our arsenal to combat this complicated issue.

Practice standards should be developed which are then regularly reviewed for coordination with other disciplines and State Laws.

It's critical to support the science of psychology, especially since it is the most effective way to treat individuals.
