We, the undersigned, express our support for APA’s development of science-based clinical practice guidelines. This is an important initiative to advance evidence-based practice. We write to note our support for APA’s continued funding of this effort and commitment to dissemination and implementation of the guidelines that are developed.

Even if I were not involved in helping to oversee the guideline development process I would be wholly supportive. I am a big fan the treatment guidelines generated by NICE in the UK and what they have been doing to increase access to psychosocial treatments (IAPT). We have nothing like that in the states (yet) but it gives us something to shoot for.

I urge you to continue to fund these efforts. Increasing the number of individuals who receive Empirically supported treatments can reduce suffering and healthcare expenditures.

Very important. As an associate professor in counseling psychology these guidelines will be valuable in teaching the next generation of psychologists.

In the UK NICE has been producing evidence-based guidelines for the treatment of mental health problems for a decade. The guidelines have greatly enhanced the public and political support for psychological therapies and have unlocked substantial funding to pay for the public to benefit from the therapies. US guidelines could easily have the same impact.

As a member of APA's Board of Professional Affairs, which oversees these clinical and practice guidelines, I am committed to fostering this important work. Evidence-based guidelines are crucial for the future of professional psychology. We are fortunate to have such a stellar clinical science team to develop them.
