The
Michigan Legislature is working on state-wide policy, for food truck
fire-system inspection standards.
The
proposed state house language will do the following:
Item
1: One annual fire-system inspection, done at the local or county
level.
This
has several exceptions:
Major
modifications to the vehicle or major upgrades/modifications to the
fire-system on the vehicle. These two scenarios would require an
additional inspection, if they were to occur during the annual
period.
Item
2:
An
annual inspection fee of $200.
Note:
Currently there is no limit to the number of fees and inspections of
the fire-system, a food truck owner can be subjected to.
Item
3:
Higher
inspection standards for the food truck's fire-system.
Note:
This state-wide policy will dramatically cut lost work days and truck
travel for redundant inspections.
This
will benefit the general food truck community, by making more trucks
available for events around the state.
Note: The Michigan House Bill # will be added in September.
HB 5450: House Bill 5450 of 2026 - Michigan Legislature
HB 5451: House Bill 5451 of 2026 - Michigan Legislature
Get this done. It is hurting our ability to book events in different counties.
