I stand with this push, which I see as part of a much larger historical push, to cash a check at DEQ. Let us make it happen.

Brenda deserves justice, as well as the BIPOC affinity space employees who had written letters twice about concerns - which are related to Brenda’s situation. With no staff left, where will the money allocated for it go? Are there plans to hire to fill all the positions now? If not, where will the money be reallocated to?

What the DEQ is doing to BIPOC employees is racist, deplorable, and wrong. I feel ashamed to call myself an Oregonian, knowing this is how a state agency that is supposed to advocate for and protect our environment, can’t even do that for its employees.

DEQ's failure to “create a culture of inclusion and racial equity to foster organizational well-being and effectively serve our employees and communities” is insulting, and ultimately nullifies DEQ's effort to serve the community.

Equity is under threat in America more than any time in decades! I want DEQ to be a shining example of environmental justice, including how it treats its employees.

We call on allies to sign the open letter and reach out to agency leadership to demand accountability and real commitment to equity. True environmental justice at DEQ cannot exist without protecting and supporting those doing this critical work.

I continue to see a pattern of blatant carelessness and mismanagement of BIPOC staff, especially those with probationary status. As stated in this petition, this does not demonstrate or model what it means to be an "anti-racist" agency.

I really felt Brenda was the person that had the vision for implementing the change DEQ has said it is looking for.

That the agency can't retain 3 EJ or DEI professionals is all that we need to hear to know that something is wrong & needs to be fixed at the agency.
