As an alumna of the Class of '72, I have to say I am appalled by this decision. Fox News shouldn't be allowed to wag JMU's tail. Diversity training is much needed, especially in JMU's own area, to counteract the many years of discrimination in this nation. Educational institutions should not bow to extremists. Please rescind this decision ASAP and bring back this much needed training.

JMU….remember that Fox News is an entertainment channel and you are “supposed” to be a strong educational institution helping to support and teach our next generation…shame on you for caving to bullying and “peer” pressure …you know better…stand up and do what is right…

Come on, JMU. You are turning your back on the future- cancelling diversity and inclusion training. I’m ashamed of you. Show some spine and do the hard, right thing. Reestablish the training.

I’m an alumnus of JMU and expect this institution to continue to focus on improving the experience of ALL students. This requires a continued focus and education on diversity and inclusion.

I’m so disappointed that Fox News can prevent this country from effectively moving toward its founding principles of liberty and justice for ALL. Plus the “Christian” ideals of empathy and compassion. Diversity training helps us understand each other and the ways we can treat each other with dignity—the proper goals for any institution of higher learning. Once again the uneducated, the narcissistic, the fearful, and the grossly opinionated are dragging us down. You can do better.

Pausing or cancelling diversity and inclusion training is just wrong—and certainly antithetical to the principles of educating students, faculty, and staff.

As an alumni of JMU with a student considering it for college in 2 years, this is an unacceptable decision by the school. Diversity and Inclusion training is imperative for any university to make sure they are moving forward and actually educating for the future. I certainly won't give money, or send my student there, knowing they don't support D&I training. What else do they not support that we aren't aware of?

Instead of defending the principles of critical theory and DEI, Tim Miller chose to back down and not protect the two amazing staff mentioned in the Fox article. My heart goes out to all students, but especially Jennifer Iwerks and Jessica Weed. They are fantastic educators, and I know many would call them allies and proper advocates. Tim, how dare you not stand up for them and their important work. In the end, you've only made life and work worse for them. Shame on you as an administrator. I expect a public apology specifically to those two, and possibly a resignation from you for letting this happen to two of your staff you are supposed to protect and care for.
