As a public school teacher and alumnus of James Madison, I feel that teaching about diversity, equity, and inclusion is crucial when it comes to building a positive community and a well-functioning society as a whole. I support these trainings for students and staff at James Madison University.

As a alumni of your graduate program, I am very disappointed in JMU's decision to pause their D&I training. Not only are you slowing down progress, you are communicating the university is not a welcoming place for all individuals. You have communicated you would rather make space for alt-right political rhetoric than the humanity of students of color. I will be withholding donations until the university reverses course.

Fox News and a few loud hatemongers/fearmongers should not get a say in how a public school informs and educates its students and staff. Learning about systemic racism is the only way we can begin to dismantle it. Instead of pausing the inclusion program, why not make discussing its content a PART of the program. The whole point is to facilitate hard conversations--not to place blame but to start raising awareness so we can then heal.

If one penny of Federal funds are received by JMU, I believe the school is required by statue to provide diversity training.

Very disappointed. In 2014, I had the opportunity to visit campus as a chaperone for my daughter's high school marching band. Her school is very diverse and placed 2nd in their class. Fox News should never influence any campus to make any decisions. They are representing an idea of a past that never existed. Please move forward and look to the future with people of color in every field and in every sphere of society. It is what your students deserve.
