Hockey is the fastest growing sport in Pittsburgh. And Pittsburgh has most youth hockey rise in the whole country. Ice is always needed especially on that side of town where there are few rinks.

the city needs a rink and a rink in east end would open the game of hockey up to a new crop of players. maybe bring d1 or d3 ncaa hockey to the city limits.

As a member of the Ubiversity of Pittsburgh Club Ice Hockey team, this rink would allow us to practice at much more reasonable times. Currently, we practice at 11 PM during the week at the Harmarville Bladerunners, which is a 30 minute drive from campus.

Other than the Schenley rink, which is only open in the winter, the city has no rink. The increased demand for rinks (partly due to the success of the Penguins) makes programs and ice time difficult to find unless people travel to locations well outside the city. A rink in the city could serve people from the East as far out as Monroeville, the North Side of the City, The South Side of the City and even some areas West of the City.
This location or the Gladstone School would be ideal locations for a city rink.
