As a Shadyside resident, I and my family completely support the proposal to re-purpose the Hunt Armory as a first-class indoor skate rink. I believe this will increase the quality of life and will keep families invested in the long-term success of the neighborhood.

The East End has exploded with new residential units. This is wonderful, but we also have to maintain and build urban community venues to attract those that want to live in the city. An ice rink would be a beloved addition for our urban Pittsburgh community.

The availability of a building large enough to support an indoor ice rink in the City, and especially in the East End, is incredibly limited. While the other projects are undoubtedly beneficial, there are multiple rehab opportunities to create more apartments/condominiums and incubators both in the East End, and throughout the rest of the City. With all of the development of additional living space nearby in Bakery Square, East Liberty, and the droves of multi-unit complexes in Shadyside, this would provide residents with a recreational opportunities not only in the winter, but year-round. With the amount of schools nearby, it is hard to imagine that any other project would be able to provide any better benefit to the community.

The demand for ice time in the rinks outside of city limits is just one of many reasons the city should build this rink. It will bring added revenue to the city and surrounding businesses as well!

It's unfortunate that Pittsburgh residents have to travel to the suburbs to play hockey. Hockey is an ever growing sport in this area so there is a lot of money being spent outside the city that could spent here.

I fully support building this new rink since it will bring together the coummunity and offer kids/teens/adults a great opportunity to learn how to play hockey, figure skate and enjoy free skates with freinds and family. This is a terrific idea.

Pittsburgh needs another urban ice center. I grew up playing for the Pittsburgh Hornets out of the Neville rink in the southside and it has burned down/collapsed. This project will enable more than just the rich elitist children to skate and play hockey. The Penguins have not done enough in this regard and sometimes are further gentrifying the sport of hockey. A city rink is a fantastic idea. My full support.

Although there are many rinks around Pittsburgh there is always a demand for ice time, especially for adults. Many adults play late into the night as school leagues take up prime after-school/work hours.
