Support building a new ice rink in Shadyside!

No to apartments Yes to community center

Building strong communities is about more than building apartments. I can't think of a much better use for Armory.

Growing up and having access to the old Neville Ice Arena in the Southside (21st Street) had a major influence in my life (I later became a collegiate student athlete in women's ice hockey and coached youth and adult hockey for several years). In areas like upstate New York and New England, ice rinks have long been embraced assets in the community. I would like to think there are many examples of sustainable facilities in these communities. Today, Pittsburgh is very much a hockey town. The popularity of the sport, along with curling, and skating should make for a highly utilized facility. Rinks can also be used for indoor soccer and other types of recreation. With the nearby hotels, tournaments at the rink could be used to attract travelling competition too. Recruit competent management and give the ice rink a chance!

This would introduce ice hockey to a whole new region of Pittsburgh and would benefit generations of kids.

As a resident of the East End and parent of 3 boys who attend Sacred Heart Elementary School, I fully support the plan for an ice rink. The need for something to benefit the community is greater than the need for more apartments.

We don't need more high priced apartments or 'affordable housing' at 'just 1k per month'-- we need goods and services. An ice rink here would be awesome.

A ice rink in the city of Pittsburgh is much needed. As a local ice hockey coach that has been a part of a program for inner city kids for 13 years, something like this is much needed and long overdue.

There is a need in the community for this, there are already a huge amount of apartments being built we need something like this for people to do.

I think this is a great and unique idea

As a parent of a student at Sacred Heart Elementary School, I do not support a high density apartment complex to replace the Hunt Armory.

I now have to drive my son and daughter several times a week over 40 minutes to the closest ice for hockey. This is why people move to the suburbs. We need more recreational options in the city.

I'd much rather see a skating rink in that space, something that many many people in the community could enjoy, than yet another set of "luxury" apartments. There are a lot of kids and teens throughout the area that wold likely be interested in participating in hockey or just skating for fun.

Traffic congestion has already become unbearable. Shadyside has no general public community center which is a shame particularly given the increasing number of kids in the neighborhood and the large influx of new apartments and residents. It seems that only external companies are gaining profit without current (and future) residents having much to say about the direction of their home local community.

I'd be all over this.

A multipurpose space would be great too! We need more soccer fields or ultimate frisbee fields in Pittsburgh too.

Let's keep this going!!! What great fun this will be to have a rink in the City!!!

No more new apartments!

Central Catholic and the University of Pittsburgh need their own rink!

Ice rink would be great for all. The city needs more things for kids to do and the community to gather.
