The function of ALR land is for agricultural use. This is prime ALR
land ideal for community gardens/small lease uptake by local farmers unable to afford farmland, for production of non-meat-destined, high nutrition, locally produced, marketed and consumed
sustainable food supply, as the community and the world move into climate change/drought conditions threatening food security world wide. PARC: Support the SSI Farmland Trust Society by helping to fund purchase and transfer of this land for such purpose.
Gardening: the quinessential form of re-creation. Such a win/win opportunity for PARC to support
recreation, economy, human wellbeing, security, relaxation.
Make yourselves WINNERS, pARC.

I'm disgusted with Parks & Rec re this revolting plan which will disturb and distress so many senior friends. How much due diligence have you put into "deciding" on this wholly inappropriate site?

Brinkworthy Road is absolutely the WRONG place for a major ballfield complex.

Have a little respect for the elderly in our community...It's a poor and inconsiderate choice...like the pool...great idea but the dummies close it on Sat. when kids are out of school and Dad's not working. Why on SSI does every move seem to be half baked. Why so many amateurs making important decisions? Always puzzling. Usually someone is making money.

The PARC have other more creative alternatives which they have not made any effort to explore. The elders of Brinkworthy Place do not deserve this disruption in the rest of their lives and expect that their rights will be protected.

With the effects of climate change we cannot give up our agricultural land for non-farm use.

ALR was set aside to protect our future and should be honoured. To pave farmland is to risk the future of all citizens.

I totally agree that as we move forward we need as much agricultural lands on Salt Spring Island as possible. I support this petition 100%.

I join the many residents of Salt Spring who demand that the Islands Trust decline PARC's irresponsible request to re-zone 181 Brinkworthy Road from agricultural land preserve into regional sports facility. The constant noise and the heavy flow of vehicle traffic from off-island day-trippers attending soccer and football matches will bring huge negative impacts to our most vulnerable citizens on the island.

All property owners should be able to feel confident that the zoning in their neighbourhood will not be changed to a more intrusive use if they object.

Surely there must be an alternate location found that does not negatively affect a seniors community.
