This is one more step in connecting the Bruce Freeman and the MCRT to create a large interconnected off-road trail system.

With cyclists being killed by cars all over the country, even in bike lanes (see https://www.bicycling.com/news/a36463435/gwen-inglis-killed-by-colorado-driver/), the need for protected bike lanes such as rail trails is clear.

The importance of Phase 2D of the BFRT is immense for the creation of a functional active transportation network, a necessity for reducing carbon footprints and boosting human health. It will extend car-free access to W. Concord's commuter rail station, enhance bicycle access to Sudbury's schools and commercial areas, potentially link the Mass Central Rail Tr. in a statewide network of trails, and bring countless health and recreation benefits to the region. Phase 2D will be a community asset that will achieve vital goals, we have patiently waited for it long enough, and the next TIP document should include this project for immediate construction.

Rail trails add so much value to a community and get everyone out walking and riding. Let's do this!

Every mile added to this fabulous trail makes it so much more valuable. I volunteered as a trail-counter this morning, and the comments were incredibly positive!

As a board member of the Friends of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, a long-time supporter & user of the BFRT, and a resident of Sudbury (host town for BFRT 2D), I wholeheartedly support inclusion of 2D in the FFY 2022 TIP. The BFRT is a marvelous public asset and a vital regional connectivity resource, which is treasured by the communities (and more) through which it passes and serves. BFRT 2D has received the overwhelming support, financial commitment, and attentive, enlightened design from the Town of Sudbury. Importantly, 2D's Southern terminus will create a unique nexus by serving The Commonwealth as the intersection with the East-West extension of the Mass Central Rail Trail which DCR will near-term extend to and through Sudbury.
BFRT deserves and needs to remain programmed for TIP funding for FFY 2022.
Thank you.

This is a very important multiuse trail, connecting many communities together, and it will also connect with other multiuse trails. This is an important part of a regional transportation plan, plus there are numerous recreational and health benefits as a bonus.

This needs to get built out. NYDOT built out 400 miles of these in 4 years, finishing in Dec 2020. We can do this.
