When protesters in Bahrain called for one person one vote, a constitutional monarchy, and an end to corruption - many were shot dead in the street, and hundreds have now disappeared, after Saudi soldiers joined Bahraini police in a violent crack down that has been condemned by many human rights organisations. Bahraini students in Manchester and other UK cities who protested in support of the Bahraini democracy movement, have now had their sponsorship cancelled by the Bahraini government. We the undersigned call upon University chancellors to ensure these students can continue their studies, can remain in accommodation and do receive support. In addition we call upon the British Foreign Secretary to call in the Bahrain Ambassador and demand that the Bahraini crack down is ended.
I have spent my mornings talking with the students directly affected by these cancellations and their fear is becoming impossible to ignore. Behind the scenes I am pressing university administrators to offer emergency extensions because these young people cannot be sent back into harm's way.

Seeing this movement gain so much steam feels incredible for the students I know who are currently facing this nightmare. Your backing proves that people will not remain silent while these young lives are dismantled by state retaliation.

SHAMEFUL. The government is literally ruining their futures because they asked for democracy. Do the right thing and keep them enrolled.

UK universities need to protect these kids. Cant believe they would just cut their funding like that. Keep them in school.

This is completely unfair. They are just trying to get an education and shouldn't be punished for speaking out about what is happening back home.
