You are actually doing something for the benefit of the human race, and you've got my complete admiration for it. We need more Matts and fewer short-sighted people. We need more scientists and fewer "fashion critics". You, sir, have earned the right to wear whatever you damn please. In my book, you are a hero and heroes get to choose their outfit. Cheers from Mexico. Keep on rocking.

The work you have accomplished for the science community is greater than anything the bullies who spoke against you will ever achieve. Its a bold statement but, Matt Taylor is not a name i will remember because of fashion, but because you have landed among the stars. Your legacy will be carried through the galaxy. Not many human beings can brag that.

As Newton said “I was like a boy playing on the sea-shore, and diverting myself now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.” Although the ocean that he sat next to has been traversed, you are on the shore of new, uncharted ocean. Its thanks to people like you that humanity keeps on striding! Matt, don't listen to those fools! At the end of the day people won't look back on these days and see a t-shirt, they will see a small step in the march of progress of mankind! Never forget that you are at the frontier of science! You and your colleagues are forging a new understanding of the world, if only people were mature enough to see that; the achievements of a person and not the t-shirt he wears.... Stay strong Matt and congrats on Philae!

Hi Faye, they're a lot of negative comments about femanists on this petition and I think you've highlighted this recrimination well. "Shirtstorm" is not a reflection on the majority of femanists, though a reflection of a few extremists that have associated themselves with femanism. It should indeed be about equal rights. Not about the oppressed becoming the oppressors based on the interpretation of expression from a few selective individuals. It's always encouraging to see rational comments like yours.

As a woman I am ashamed that this happened those people should be ashamed of themselves ! What you have done is monumental and a great step forward for humanity. The Internet cares too much about how people dress and how they spell rather their achivements. But at least as this forum (or whatever it's called I'm not sure :) ) shows people are also capable of great kindness and only a minority spoil it. Hope you feel better and keep doing what your doing

As a woman who has worked all her career in science and a feminist I want to say 'well done Matt Taylor and all the team of men and women who contributed to the great achievement' and 'Love the shirt, I'd be very happy for my husband to wear it'

Hi Matt, I'm sorry that one of your proudest moments was taken over by your shirt! Your shirt is great! I believe in gender equality and what that reporter did, prevents gender equality from being taken seriously. They're not feminists, they're missing the point and spoiling it for the rest of us. Be proud of your accomplishment and I hope when you look back at this time, you feel joy instead of despair over some people who in mine and I'm sure many peoples opinions need to lighten up!

I'm not offended by his shirt. I'm too busy worrying about women being physically and mentally tortured for truly non-offensive things. Such as not being able to drive, walk in public without a male relative present, or daring to leave an abusive relationship (and subsequently tortured and killed...by her own family).

I think you're awesome! That shirt was in no way offensive! You should never have apologized. That was unfair. Bullying is the worst. Its even worse when they mentally hurt you. I'm not sure if you're an atheist or not....but God bless you sir, and your family. You've done and inspired many people.

The talk about the shirt is BS. I am a woman, I tend to be a scientist, you're shirt is pop-culturistic, and quite frankly I like it. I wonder how it's okay for woman to dress up slutty for let's say, Halloween, or regular night out, but when you weat this shirt for tv, it's world wide news and drama. I don't see anyone judging Charlie Sheen, he's not sexist, he's cool. Also, the celebrites in showbusiness, most od the "ladies" in that circle dress showing boobs and much much more all the time, but when they do that, they are simply sexy and beautiful. When a guy wears a simple shirt, probably not even thinking about it, he gets crucified. That's not okay. People are so silly sometimes, but we'll forgive them. Not everyone can be as smart as you :)

This guy helped with landing the first spacecraft on a freaking comet and everyone's worried about some (awesome) shirt. This should be a great time for you and instead you're bullied into delivering a tearful apology you shouldn't have even had to give. Seriously, you're awesome.

It's official. I am no longer surprised by the behaviour and hypocrisy of these people. A great achievement ruined by a bunch of morons who do nothing but demonise men and infantilise women. Well done to Matt and everyone who helped make history.

You've done nothing wrong Matt, you have pushed humankind forward unlike the Marxist Feminists who hold us back.

Are the comments to be sent to Matt going to be checked? Just in case some moron decides to use this to send more hate his way.

There's not even a single naked woman on that shirt. If some would-be-feminist SJW hypocrite feels that her mediocre life needs more attention, why won't she step up and try to achieve something that's actually beneficial for the humanity rather then just opress hardworking people without a good reason?

Dear Matt, I read the articles that were written against your shirts and then I saw your heartbreaking apology via the link below. http://www.theguardian.com/science/video/2014/nov/14/rosetta-scientist-matt-taylor-breaks-down-apology-offensive-shirt-video I wanted to say to you SORRY. The women who wrote those articles and who agree with it are wrong in every single way. There is nothing wrong with a shirt that celebrates women but there is something wrong with judging the person wearing that shirt and judging that shirt only by appearance. I am not a feminist BUT feminism is supposed to be about accepting ALL women and men. It shouldnt be that women who look like the ones on your shirt are rejected or seen as more sexual, it should be that all women are equal and so it should be okay for you to wear a shirt with whatever image you choose. It shouldnt be that you or your shirt are judged before even talking to you about your views on women, objectification and science. The people who lynched you are ass holes and they are not very bright either. They claim your t-shirt is the reason women arent in science yet no scientist have worn that t-shirt in the past and women still arent as much a part of science as they would like. They claim men make women afraid to enter science fields while ignoring that society is far more hostile to the concept of men entering female dominated fields like teaching. Don’t cry over them please, dont feel sad over them please. A lot is being done to encourage women to enter science fields, much more than is being done to encourage men to join any field. Chin up, you have my full support to wear that shirt everyday for the rest of your life. It doesnt harm women and if it does they are being very soft and those hurt women are full of double standards. Remember these are the same people who buy "male tears" mugs and say NOTHING when their leaders wear "male tears" t-shirts. And congrats on all the work you and your tea

Dear Matt, When the Google hangout began, I noted, half consciously, that you were not wearing anything gorgious. When the time came for you to take the mike I went rigid with horrified astonishment to hear that you were APOLOGISING. Huh? I didn't know about these nonentities and their gripes as I had been too busy following the science. When I heard you say it was about the glorious shirt (SHIRT!) you had worn, well... I confess that I didn't hear all you said about the science aspects because I was too busy finding out how to get out of full screen so that I could post a comment RIGHT THEN AND THERE! I'm a moderately elderly (and very proper) English woman and I have been delighted by your approach to things. I was brought up on a working class council estate in Essex, and I could see in you the kind of inspiration that enables kids with that background to think that science CAN be for them. I sincerely trust that these, these, oh! I don't have words for them! Well, not ones that I care to use publicly. But you can easily imagine them, if you know that my family got to Essex from being bombed out of the East End during the Blitz. To say that the family style is not to call a spade a shovel is an understatement... Anyway, check your rhyming slang: they are all berks. Big hug, Matt - and let's see those tattoos and great shirts some more!
