Hi Faye, they're a lot of negative comments about femanists on this petition and I think you've highlighted this recrimination well. "Shirtstorm" is not a reflection on the majority of femanists, though a reflection of a few extremists that have associated themselves with femanism. It should indeed be about equal rights. Not about the oppressed becoming the oppressors based on the interpretation of expression from a few selective individuals. It's always encouraging to see rational comments like yours.

Matt, you are not alone. I looked for ways to contact you and this was then best I found: please, please, do not give up on science, keep on doing what you love and are great at - don´t let some bitchy feminist-ish people (these are not really anywhere close to being reasonable feminists) spoil the joy of your achievement!

My take on the situation: Guy spends 10 years planning, working, stressing, worrying about something that will be one of the greatest accomplishments in human history and give hope to the future. A female friend creates a shirt for him. He tells her that he'll wear it to work on the landing day, to promote her brand, and because he also feels a little luckier with it. On a project like this, you need all the luck you can get. Guy comes to work in his lucky shirt and successfully lands the probe. Gets labeled a mysoginist and told that he's the reason why more women aren't in STEM careers (obviously bullshit). He's then forced to give a public apology for doing nothing wrong, in which he breaks down and cries. Why? Because he can't understand the hate. He's just been part of one of the greatest things in human history, and all people care about is a SHIRT... that his FEMALE friend made for him. He goes to websites and sees photos of the landing: tens of views. Discussion on his shirt: thousands and thousands of views. He cries for the sorry state of the world, and the feeling that we will never change. Mankind only cares for what is happening in the moment. The drama. They don't care about the future. I'm sorry, Dr. Taylor. But, if you ever see this comment, just know that there is at least one person out there that thinks that you are an inspiration.

Yes. We've been going through them as they come in. We're not editing but are making sure the the comments are in support. Also there is a very nice lady at ESA who is receiving this on behalf of Dr Taylor for that very reason (she is then passing it on after giving it the all clear)

i challenge all feminists to wear this shirt to the next slutwalk they attend to show support for Matt and to make a point. if its true that you can wear what you want and not be judged then it HAS to be true for EVERYONE. you get upvotes from me for sticking to your guns on this.

I'd just like to point out that A. I agree whole heartedly with your argument against the feminist stereotype, perpetuated by these people who have accused Dr. Taylor of sexual objectivication. B. Women do not have a biologically lower capacity for reason. (It's the nature/nurture paradox) unless you believe feminism is gentically inherent. C. Men can be just as psycologically damaged by some of the horrors endured by certain professions. Plus they were more than likely provided with training before employment and suitable counciling should the worst happen. D. Whilst you make some excellent points, it's rather biased. Which I find slightly offensive but I see what you were trying to achieve. In short, if you tried to see from both points of view and that "Extremist Feminists" are only a minority of the whole. Then perhaps you could avoid seeming prejudiced.
