I'm a mechanical engineering student at New Mexico Tech. I've been increasingly disinterested in mech e, and I've been considering other engineering fields. Aeronautics was always interesting to me, but it reminded me far too much of mechanical for my liking. I've known about the Rosetta mission for a while, but after this controversy started (which made me very upset in all honesty), I looked more into not only the mission, but astronautical engineering. So thanks to you, Matt, I think I know what kind of job I want to do for the rest of my life. And I have you to thank for it. So thank you, Matt, for making a difference in my life, even if it came about in a horrible way.

I actually WAS chased out of a STEM major by a professor who repeatedly told me the field wasn't a good one for women. That was many many years ago and I'd like to think times have changed. Telling a woman their career choice isn't good based on their gender IS being hostile to women in science.

This accomplishment of landing something on a space rock is remarkable and all that's being talked about is a shirt? A SHIRT?! No wonder america is scoring low in science if you care more abut that! Congrats man, don't worry about the whiners. They're just jelly. And besides, they would still complain if you showed up in a speedo.

I thought it was cool that a scientist was breaking the mold of "stuck-up dude in lab coat", and wearing something a little more colorful. I honestly didn't even notice that it was scantily clad women until feminists pointed it out. I really don't understand why feminists feel the need to point out these kinds of things, bringing more attention to them than they otherwise would receive.

Thank you for all your hard work in this team effort. You have not let anyone down. You have not offended me with your shirt. I am sorry that there have been people pressuring you over it. They do not speak for me as a woman, or as a human being. Keep your eyes to the stars, it is there that we shall move beyond petty concerns like race, gender and sexuality. I look forwards to hearing what Philae and Rosetta report back.
