It's
time for New Jersey to stand up to defend immigrant students. Last month, the
Trump Administration ended DACA (Deferred Action
for Childhood Arrivals) which puts nearly a million young people who call the
United States home at risk of deportation across the country. In New Jersey
there are 22,000 DACA youth and 71,000 DACA eligible youth - many of whom
are students - scrambling, wondering what the decision means for their family
and their futures. Now is the time for New Jersey to stand against hate and
fear and protect DREAMers. New Jersey has the opportunity to pass legislation
to provide ALL students, regardless of their immigration status, with access to
state financial aid. The cost of college is high enough. All students that call
New Jersey home should be able to seek aid to attend college. SIGN ON to
support New Jersey Senate and Assembly bills S1458/A1650 and demand that New
Jersey not turn its back on its young people, our economy, and our future.
I have seen so many talented young people over the years struggle to make tuition, and many times give up. We as a society, as a state care missing their contributions by making it financially impossible for them to study.
