Waitrose should stay in Herford. It would be highly dangerous to allow extra vehicle access on to the A10 at Pepper Hill, and Hertford town centre needs a supermarket to serve the needs of those who can only travel by bus

I wholeheartedly support this petition. I am convinced that the proposed development at Great Amwell will be bad for the environment, but I am even more concerned that the loss of Waitrose from Hertford town centre will be damaging to the commerce of our county town.

The green belt use for yet another giant supermarket is against the principles of planning policies especially in this particular location on the margins of built up areas who already have plenty of supermarket choice.

The residential population of Hertford town centre sufficient to support Waitrose ,Tesco ,Sainsbury and M&S food stores and will grow substantially with residential developments under construction and planned. Waitrose is a nice earner for John Lewis and is comparatively "upmarket" relative to some of its competitors and has a loyal customer base. It serves a well established customer base and is local to that base without a need for its customers to drive and have to park motor vehicles.

The presence of Waitrose as the only good-sized food shop in the very centre of Hertford keeps other local shops, and thus the town centre, alive.

This decision is in urgent need of review. There are so many reasons for this... The existing development is in keeping with its surroundings and drives footfall to support local business in an already struggling historical market town. Major grocers are moving away from the development of out of town shopping centres. Access to the proposed site does not support the resulting increase in traffic. Moving an existing grocer 3.9 miles down the road to serve the same area makes no sense. Ware has just seen the opening of another major grocer and therefore does not need a third. Oh and it's on contrary to planning policies.

Stop taking everything out of the towns. There are too many empty shops as it is. Leave the shops in the towns and the fields green.

Planning officers presented a comprehensive and professional report to members. Somehow a narrow political decision was made ignoring NPPF and the statutory plan and the direction of travel of the emerging local plan.There will be a detrimental impact on the viability and vitality of the neighbouring market towns and adjoining villages.It is clear from the representations by land interests to the SHLAA that this area has strong development potential. This is reflected in the support from adjoining land owners to the devolopment of an wholly unsustainable car borne out of town shopping centre.Especially as retail trends have now shown a move away from the devlopment of this type of outlet to more local town centre/edge of centre approach by major retailers.It seems to me that the openness of the greenbelt must be rigorously protected and possible coalescence strongly defended in order to retain the character and distinctiveness of our historic settlements.
