I support the Hertford Civic Society's views: do not build a large supermarket on Green Belt land, and do not diminish the role of local town centres for shoppping.

We the people of Hertford particularly those without cars and many who use the bus services need Waitrose to stay in the town.

Waitrose is a popular supermarket for local people and is always busy with happy shoppers. We want to keep it that way, here in the heart of Hertford and NOT right out of town. Not many people will go there believe me.

There is no need for a supermarket at Van Hage's. It would cause even more traffic chaos, and anyway, there are plenty of alternatives nearby. Keep Waitrose in Hertford town centre, as it is already in danger of becoming a ghost-town.

I am strongly opposed to the suggestion that a food store is developed at Van Hague's.

We need to keep our town centres alive with a wide variety of shops and facilities and this will draw people out of the Ware and Hertfod and from local village shops and also add major traffic to the local roads.

The application comprises inappropriate development in the Green Belt which is not justified by any very special circumstances, and because it comprises out-of-town retail development harmful to the continued vitality and viability of Hertford (and other) town centres. The officers’ report to committee recommended refusal of the application for those reasons.

It is an intrinsic part of the town.

Waitrose ethos is supposed to be to support local communities and act sustainably, I don't see how moving to a remote garden centre meets either

Shame to lose waitrose. Maybe if the council helped over parking ?

Please consider the implications for Hertford town centre, loss of waitrose would be devastating

We must not lose Hertford Waitrose and we have absolutely no need for Van Hagues Waitrose. I will never use it.

I have used Waitrose in Hertford ever since it opened. As I am one of many people who do not drive it is ideally sited adjacent to the bus station. To move the store will make it impossible for me to shop at this new location. We do not need another large out of town store, especially on a green belt site.

to move Waitrose would be a foolish move for many reasons

Waitrose is an asset to the town, why close something that is so popular and has been updated inside!!!

Less and less green belt and more to be taken away for a supermarket that isn't needed
