We the undersigned call on the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to 'Call-In' for full review the decision to allow a supermarket to be built on Van Hage's site in Great Amwell, recognising the decision was made contrary to planning policies that protect our town centres and preserve the green belt.

Hertford is being stripped of all useful shops. All it has is hairdressers! How many hairdressers does a small county town need?

How is it green to encourage people into their cars rather than walking or using buses to a town centre store?.

I love Waitrose and it is always my first choice but I am not likely to drive to the next town to shop there if they leave Hertford. I know many people who go into town to shop at Waitrose and then visit other shops whilst there. It will affect the local businesses greatly. Hertford town has been affected more than many other towns throughout the recession and this could be the final nail in the coffin.

This decision was made with wanton disregard for existing planning policy. It goes against existing legislation for the use of green belt land. Furthermore, in out come it will be detrimental to the prosperity of the town centre of Hertford.

As well as the environmental impacts, Waitrose moving out of Hertford will rip the heart out of Bircherley Green and the town at a time when Government policy is to revitalise town centres

I am against the proposed plans to have a large supermarket in the green belt. Not only this would have a serious negative effect on the environment but would seriously damage the quality of Hertford.

Waitrose is massively important to Hertford as a shopping centre. Opening a supermarket at Van Hage's would have a serious impact on Ware, Hoddesdon and Hertford.

Hertford needs a central and convenient supermarket like Waitrose. All major supermarkets have said that out of town in supermarkets are no longer desirable. Please keep Waitrose in central Hertford and not on the green belt.
