This proposal takes us back to 1970s thinking. We don't need an out if town supermarket, and it will lead to further decline in the vitality of the local market towns

An out of town supermarket at Van Hages is totally unnecessary, having a devastating impact on struggling, neighbouring town centres as well as generating even more traffic. Complete madness.

would have a terrible effect on Hertford
VanHage site accessible by bike or foot only for tiny number. hardly accessible by bus. would be just car-borne retail (?Government carbon policies?)

Please keep Waitrose in Hertford town.
Who wants to get into a car (environmentally unfriendly) and drive everytime you need shopping. Also, town centres need protecting. We do not want more out of town American style malls!! So un-English!!!
Think of your loyal customers Waitrose, not the lure of the bean counters and those who stand to make a personal fortune!!

This decision will damage the commercial viability of Hertford town centre, will encourage greater use of cars and will be a disadvantage to the elderly and other groups dependent on public transport. It is also a threat to the Green Belt.

The entire proposal runs counter to the John Lewis avowed principles, works against best interests of the people of Hertford and is against national planning policy to focus on town-centre prosperity and preservation of the Green Belt

I believe losing Waitrose in Hertford would have a hugely negative impact on the town centre . Fewer shoppers mean that other businesses would ultimately suffer too.
What about those who don't drive & rely on this high quality local resource ?

I believe the approval of this development would have a drastic effect on Hertford town which is already struggling with shops closing and lack of shoppers and would take even more people away from the town and also Ware and Hoddesdon. There are already a number of large supermarkets nearby (Asda and Tesco in Ware) and (Sainsburys and Morrisons in Hoddesdon) and allowing this development would only benefit the owners of Van Hages and those people who drive everywhere. It completely goes against a Town Centres approach. East Herts council should be trying to help its towns rather than just ignoring planners recommendations which it has done.
