We are constantly being told that shoppers have shifted from large weekly shops in favour of smaller more frequent shops. This makes Van Hage's/Waitrose's plans a nonsense, as well as taking trade from the local town centres. We should encourage shopping ares to be in town where people live and work with easy accessibility to those on foot, and those who cycle. Out of town shopping centres are a blight on the environment both visually and in terms of pollution from the increased impact of transport.

When watching the webcam broadcast of the Van Hage hearing, I was shocked by the quality of the debate, Was the dismissal of the neighbouring borough's objection legal?

This can only aid the demise of the town centre which will become a waste land except in the evenings. It goes against the councils own conditions and was proposed to be rejected by the officers. As I understand it large out of town shops are losing favour as people shop more frequently at local supermarkets.

This will be a tragedy if it goes ahead, it will effect the local shops in Hertford & Ware. It also goes against the advice of the Planning officers!

I think we should keep our Waitrose Store in Hertford,
It is a focus for the Town,plus will Devastate the Town Centre for other small businesses, if the Store leaves Hertford

An out of town store at Van Hage's would be very bad for the retail communities of both Hertford and Ware and most definitely does not justify development of Green Belt land.

Sadly majority of Hertford's shops are now hairdressers, barbers, coffee shops, restaurants/late night drinking premises and charity shops. Therefore cannot afford to loose another quality shop as Waitrose. Would suggest action be taken by the Council to encourage and keep good quality shops within the centre of Hertford.

A terrible, terrible proposal. The towns need support and investment directed at them, not the authorities giving up and ruining the very reason why it's such an attractive place to live - the green belt!
