Review Supermarket Decision

This proposed development will adversely affect the neighbouring county town of Hertford and the nearby town Ware. A new superstore (ASDA) has just been built nearby and the area does not need yet another supermarket build in an out of town development. The proppsed developemtn will take away trade from the local town centres.The footfall is not strong enough, there have been no arrangements to satisfy the local environment and transport services. The proposed site is on green belt land and the development should not go ahead.

The application for Waitrose at Great Amwell will naturally eventually result in the Hertford store closing. The closure of what is a flagship store would cause severe damage to the town centre and the local economy.

Hertford needs re-generating not "degenerating"! Councillors should be focussing on bringing an anchor tenant into the town not driving them away. Shame on you all. To go against the professional Planning Officer's recommendation is appalling but to be expected from clueless amateur Members.

Perhaps if more people were living and using the town centre more business would set up shop.

There are more than enough supermarkets locally in Ware, Hertford and Hoddesdon. Great Amwell doesn't need a Waitrose.

Terrible decision for Hertford

Dreadful decision against the local planning officers recommendation. Will have a dramatic affect on Hertford town centre. Shame on you Waitrose as against all the current trends for more frequent shopping from smaller town centre outlets

This development should never be allowed- green belt land, catastrophic effect on Hertford and ware town centres, increased need for car usage and disenfranchisement of elderly less mobile shoppers. Waitrose should be ashamed of themselves for pushing this through.

Worst decision in years! Bad for Hertford and bad for Ware

This was a disgraceful decision that must be reversed.

Ridiculous decision, Waitrose needs to stay in Hertford Town Centre, without Waitrose a number of other businesses will not survive as footfall will decrease.

This is simply a bad decision. The only winners are Van Hagues and Waitrose.

We already have more than enough supermarkets in our area........NO MORE SUPERMARKETS REQUIRED.

Pleasr do not allow this preposterous development to go through. Business removed from a town centre in order become a conglomerate in an out of town, hitherto quiet area.......unacceptable. No advantage to anyone except company execs/shareholders.

Ridiculous decision, in the wake of planners' recommendations and also Waitrose declared policy of not embracing remote developments. Disappearance of a central major food store in Hertford will pull down many smaller businesses in its wake.

Waitrose is at the heart of town and many people rely upon the store. There is already sainsburys and Tesco and I dread to think which down market food store would replace it. We have an historic town that is fast in decline.

This decision is scandalous and must be overturned. Planning committee muttering nonsense about Waitrose/Van Hage customer 'synergy' whilst approving a blanket non-store-chain specific application to build on green belt land - directly against the advice of their own professional planning department. This is exactly why the law provides for a Secretary of State review in the event of a Planning body going against it's planners, the NPPF and common sense.

Shame on waitrose this will ruin a town centre that is already struggling.
