No Sean from Thorold. This isn't about the people who live close. this is about the entire city losing their last beach for one single-use sporting league. The volleyball proposal is a good idea; the location is one. There's one beach left in the city. There are dozens of empty parks; dozens of school yards empty all summer long. Build the facility ANYWHERE but the beach. Or build it in Thorold.

There's two courts there now. They don't need 12. If it's so important Niagara Rapids should have come up with an option and not just focused on the beach. Port Weller Soccer League caters to more kids than the Niagara Rapids league does, but they're not targeting the beach for their league. The 12 courts is a great idea; the beach is the wrong location.

This is a forum for selfish interest and lack of understanding on what's really at stake here; build the volleyball courts anywhere but the beach. The kids you are using as pawns will still thank you for building it, and they can go to the beach afterward and enjoy it with thousands of other people

Then you should put that hard work ethic into action in coming up with a better location for this facility. Persevere and help this group come up with a better idea than trying to take the beach away from everyone else in the city who wants to enjoy the beach. Volleyball is one sport; not the only one.

Well, if your kids are playing beach volleyball now why do they need to take over the beach from the rest of the people who don't play. There are literally dozens of empty parks in the city where this makes sense. It does not make sense to take away the one beach. It's sand volleyball...not beach volleyball. Build it anywhere but the beach

Great; Oakville has a nice waterfront park. Why not completely monopolize that for volleyball players only. Seems like a logically use of a rare waterfront asset no?

Complete false comment. As local residents know the city does a good job of reducing the impact of the sewer plant. The issue is taking over a public beach for one monopolized use. Not going to happen

The beach cannot manage the increasing demand if over half of it is privatized for volleyball. You know the first time someone gets injured from a volleyball player smashing into them the volleyball area would become a fenced in facility; then how would your beach look? The volleyball proposal is a great idea; the ONE, SINGULAR location they've suggested is the beach. There are literally dozens of empty parks in this city; there are empty school yards that sit quiet all summer -- prime volleyball season. Utilize public school yards for a public volleyball facility. There is only ONE beach -- one tiny, multi-use beach. To monopolize it means to lose it....

Correct: the city should provide upkeep for the beach...so everyone can use it. Not monopolize it for volleyball leagues. The beach is a rare resource. Build the volleyball facility somewhere else; great idea, wrong location.

Yes, let's do this in Beamsville. Where they took the fairgrounds and built houses. There's a great use of public facilities. Say no to taking the beach away from everyone and giving it to volleyball. There's dozens of parks and dozens of school yards that sit empty all summer. Build it there. There's only ONE beach. Leave it alone

Amanda: would you give your full support to a soccer league that wanted to put 3 soccer fields on the beach? Your support of kids playing sports is noble. Your belief that a public beach should be monopolized by one sport doesn't recognize the rare access we have to beachfront. St. Catharines is a city build on a Great Lake. How much access to waterfront do you really have? Go build volleyball courts anywhere but on our last beach where boaters, kayakers, kite-surfers, jet-skiers, families, yoga clubs, meditation groups etc share the beach. S.O.S. - Save Our Sunset Beach from being taken over by private interests.

I think it's a joke when people in the community face opposition when they are trying to make a difference and are creating intentional relationships which are encouraging kids to grow socially. Responsibility isn't something that you just get. It's something that is taught and practiced. These days more than ever we need people who are willing to invest in kid's lives. If people are opposing this... it's sad really.
I get that we pay a lot in taxes and ridiculous extras. THIS ISN'T YOUR DIME FOLKS. THIS IS PRIVATE MONEY. UOU DO NOT HAVE TO INVEST FINANCIALLY. Instead of having negativity, perhaps change that perception into one that helps. An attitude that helps the community.

As a rapids player the one thing I missed out on was playing beach volleyball. Let's get some more courts and bring some tournaments to St. Kitts!
