I see these types of things everyday as a pharmacist. The system has to change.

It is a disgusting world we live in if it takes someone's death for small minded doctors to listen. It wouldn't take much to listen to patients. I am in Australia and have had similar treatment from doctors, nothing as serious though.

At 16, I was diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome (a genetic heart condition). I was only diagnosed because my grandmother had a cardiac arrest 6 months prior. I had been fainting for about two years and had an extremely low heart rate but the doctors said it was because I was young, thin and extremely active (competitively rowing). If my grandmother wouldn't have gone into cardiac arrest, I would likely not be here today. I now have a ICD and pacemaker (also diagnosed with sic sinus syndrome), and my mother, sister, and two other family members were tested and diagnosed with Brugada syndrome. My symptoms were present and nothing was going to be done, until my grandmother almost died because of Brugada, Jess's story touched me and my heart goes out to her family and friends. What happened is not ok. Something needs to be done now. I hope Jess's story and everyone else who has been affected by medical error is heard and something is done about this. Thank you.

Jessica's story, brought me to tears. Parents should never, have to bury their child, due to medical errors.

The medical system is in a serious state. When you are forced to do your own research online and track your symptoms and heath history just for the doctor to take you seriously that something is wrong. Most of the time women get dismissed and told they just have "too much anxiety" or "how are your stress levels". It is a disgusting dismissal of the facts that we are indeed human and where is the trust? We all know our bodies and we know when something is different or wrong. Thank you for making such a strong statement. I just wish it was under better circumstances. I am so sorry for your loss.

This is a powerful reminder that Doctors need to listen to their patients. My son had a similar experience but his was with Testicular cancer. One has to be an advocate for one's care. Doctor's don't like it when you are right and they are wrong!

Medical students and other medical profession students eg pharmacists, nurses need to be taught to say they are sorry for a mistake. Then after, explanations given.
