This happens so much. We often know we are sick but our doctors can't find the problem. For starters we should be allowed to see a different doctor if we don't feel we are getting the care we need. Here in Sydney CB, NS, if you have a doctor already they won't let you change to another, you are stuck with him.

I am a medical student. As I evolve in my medical journey, I will never overlook the fact that my decisions can have such a heavy impact on someone's life. I will be preoccupied with failure, so that I may never have to see it. I WILL CARE TO CARE.

As an individual with a rare disorder or should I say rarely diagnosed disorder.. sad in this day of whole genome availability.. Longqt is part of the clinical picture. Too many have died even though technology exists to help avoid this.. but for the lack of insurance to pay for it or physicians willing to order it the deaths shall continue. Time to sign and share our shoes..

My mother died of cardiac arrest about 5 hours after ingesting her first dose of 10mg Cipralex - an antidepressant known for QT prolongation. She had no history of hypertension, heart disease, a non-smoker, etc. etc. Torsades de Pointes was indicated in the ER report. I think a 5-year old knows better than they do. Please let me know how I can help to change things for the better. As anyone that finds themselves harmed by our healthcare system, I only want accountability, yet I am being forced to litigate to achieve just that.

It is clear that avoidable harm harms many, first the patient but also those who love him/her. THe impact is even greater than the staggering numbers.

I understand the need for change and for accountability but I don't agree that "a more open, honest and healing framework of conflict resolution for medical error cases rather than adversarial litigationso all involved can heal." makes any sense. We, the patients and their families are bullied. These people who are in the medical profession hold all the weapons and we are left to defend ourselves with obedience and submission to their will or else....No. That does not work and history has proven it. When doctors kill they must be prosecuted and they must do time like anyone of us. That's the only thing that will bring the death rate due to preventable medical errors down and nothing else will. Doctors and nurses must not be placed above the law. We are not second class citizens because we are not in the medical profession and they should not be given licence to kill.

During my PhD research looking at healthcare professionals and people living with disability, I have discovered many stories of medical practitioners forming medical treatment plans based on their beliefs and attitudes rather than evidence informed practice. The time has long past when medical practitioners can claim the title "Doctor" as a symbol of their knowledge and think they are "godlike" in their capacity. Medical errors are really not "errors" but the obviously outcome of the current medical "system".

Health care or health cover-up? I can't think of anything worse than what you had to go through after the tragic loss of your beloved daughter. How strong you must be to not only be still standing on your feet, but fighting back.

My doctor told me that ALL doctors should listen to the parent. Parent knows their child the best.
