Looks like the books on this list promote kindness, understanding and inclusion. It's strange that anyone would stand in the way of these things.

These “parents” aren’t parents at all, since they are refusing to teach their children how to live in a diverse world, and would rather bury the experiences of people who don’t look like them. It’s embarassing and antithetical to education.

I am a parent of 2 LPS students and am very concerned about the grave implications this book banning has for our childrens' education. Are we to allow aggrieved parents to set the curriculum for which parts of history can be taught? Which science? Are we to kowtow to anyone in the community who lives in fear that their children might be exposed to information that will broaden their minds beyond the narrow confines set by their political beliefs? To the students organizing this petition- I sincerely hope you know the importance of the fight you are waging. I’m in your corner.

Some things never change; in my day it was Catcher in the Rye, and others. Never should someone assume they are the all knowledgeable, that they know what "is best". Jeff Roberts, NKCHS class of 1974

I am a parent and a children’s librarian. Stifling kids’ freedom to read about the world they live in is not right.

This is 2021 and we’re still having a 1st Amendment conversation? Enough. Please preserve the bookshelves as they are, and tell the NPA to actually spend time parenting their kids instead of trying to litigate / impose their twisted brand of “freedom” on the majority of us who aren’t interested.

The NPA claims that this is about graphic sexual scenes. It's not. If it were about sexual scenes, why would they not remove Shakespeare? Romeo & Juliet and Othello both have more graphic scenes than some of the books on this list. Not to mention that their kid has seen much worse on Netflix.. or youtube, or tiktok, or reddit, etc... Trying to censor books in a day of technology is like trying to cure covid with bleach- its toxic and not going to accomplish your goal

Have these "parents" actually read these books? They should be required reading not banned.

Don't ban books. It's bad. I.e. Fahrenheit 451

The idea should be to increase knowledge, not stifle it.
