Fear of differences and change should have no place in a school. Banning books is just a way to stick your head in the sand and pretend the world is how you want to see it. The way to fight bias and ignorance is through connecting with people different than yourself. Don't ban books that can create bridges.

I am a parent of a child in NKC schools. This parent group does not speak for me or my child and should not have a say in my child’s curriculum or education experience. Banning books breeds ignorance!

It's very, very telling that people are afraid of young people hearing about the negative aspects of religion.
Their parents must be incredibly insecure in their lives.

Banning books is counterproductive. Let people decide what they feel is too much. Don't decide for them. Giving insight to different situations that people experience may help them develop empathy.

No one should have the ability to take away information that may be valuable to another. We are not here to determine how each other live their lives. It is important that children can identify with characters in books or movies. That is how people develop their moral stance as well as a sense of belonging. It is so sad when people can't see past their own bias and understand it is not about you. If you are worried about your kids. Maybe you should be a better parent and talk to your kids about your values and be clear about your expectations.

Kids and teens need access to diverse, inclusive books- it is good to see students fighting for that, though you shouldn't have to. Sending support from Canada.

We need to be honest with our children. They are the future. And it is not right for a group of people to decide what’s right or wrong for my child.
