It would make the way into the village from outside welcoming. That tree has been there a long time and deserves to be made into a sculpture rather than just firewood.

It's been done previously in Stubbington by Jim Mowatt. It looks great as you walk by. So the precedent has already been set by the Council. Just do it!!

Why on earth were we not given any notice about this? Residents of Burnt House Lane and adjoining roads should have had advanced notice. Access problems have been compounded by a serious accident on Peak Lane too.

We live in Burnt House Lane so will be sad to see this tree cut down. A carving would be lovely especially if linked to Stubbington as the one in Bell Lane is. It would give the end of Burnt House Lane & the tree a new lease of life.

Lets add to this village & not just destroy, by totally removing the tree, destroy, by trying to push housing into small areas, destroy by putting health care under pressure.

Call me a cynic if you like but I am afraid I have no faith in FBC or HCC to have done any investigations into alternatives to the chain saw. All down to money and the cheapest is the saw. Well at least do something to remember the tree and be a welcoming site to the village for visitors and residents alike.q

I've lived near this tree for 15 years and to see it go will be a massive shame, don't waste it after it has taken years to grow. Make a sculpture!

I've seen beautiful old oaks like this in France,Spain,Portugal turned into living sculptures by wood cutter craftsmen, reducing the danger of falling branches, cutting down on leaf waste blocking drains etc;
