We are a Secondary 3 Raffles Institution social advocacy group. As we all know by now, Singapore loves soccer! I believe all of you were thrilled when you heard that Lionel Lewis was offered a trial at Manchester City, even if you were a Manchester United fan. Our group has seen the power of Singapore nationalism and believe that all that sign this petition will be aiding the progress of Singapore football. We have all seen the likes of Shahril Ishak and Indra Sahdan score incredible goals against world-renowned soccer teams, but our group firmly believes this elitist system of Singapore football will not work out. What will happen to soccer- loving fans who just seek a game of recreational soccer to relax and relieve the hustle and bustle of life How is it fair that more basketball courts are built than soccer courts, when Singapore is showing so much more potential in soccer than in basketball Singapore in World Cup 2018 is possible as long as we work to it and put our priorities right. Our group has suggested the construction of street soccer courts for a reason. Singapore is small and cannot afford to cater to every whim and fancy of her people. Street soccer courts take up much less space as compared to soccer fields and they can be said to build the foundational skills in a soccer player. Passing, dribbling and shooting are the essence of soccer and street soccer effectively minimizes all other elements. Ronaldinho once said that his skills were all the work of many years of street-soccer playing. Besides that, with the arrival of the Youth Olympics, Singapore has to put up a greater outlook towards a great variety of sports and adding street soccer to its framework would be good. Our group is not saying that street soccer courts are not present in Singapore, but we are suggesting for more to be built. Basketballers have often complained that soccer players are taking up their space, but people don't do things without reason. Possible void-deck fines and no tresspassing signs make it literally impossible for soccer players to find a decent place to enjoy their best sport. So, if you are a recreational soccer player and would like to see more street soccer courts built, PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION! THANK YOU!
