You can't claim the fees are necessary because of damage risk, and then require a waiver for damage. You can't have it both ways!

LAN also is free unless you SUP. SUP can contaminate all this good intension, Airlines will have to charge all SUP for obvious reasons and may drag all the rest...

It's about time we start to fight this!! A surfboard weigh less than 99% of all other luggage on the airplane. It's more expensive that the original ticket!

The charges in Europe are ludicrous. It´s cheaper for me to fly from Portugal to UK, then Morocco or Canaries. Than it is for a 2 hour flight direct from lisbon! 600 Euro for the privilege of having my boards busted up. Maybe I could get a seat for them and strap them in next to me

The baggage handlers don't get any extra money for handling them and there is a perfectly safe place in all aircraft bigger than an ATR for surfboards. Shouldn't be a drama for an airline.

Too much!!!
Tap Airline from Barcelona to Cabo Verde. They charge 150€ for each way. I pay more tax than the flight ticket himself.
Same issue with Vueling from Barcelona to Canaries.
Surfing pack at 90€ where the filght ticket is around 60€.

Obviously free would be great, next would be the ability to check a well packed board bag for a small or no fee in place of checked baggage. Yeah I know I'm a dreamer. At least give us a fee that makes sense like three boards for $100 or less round trip. It's non sense and really feel taken advantage of. It almost doubles the cost of flight and a rediculois practice.

Get real, surfers are paying customers. You wanna be fair? Try this: take the total weight an airplane can carry minus fuel, staff and food, devide by the maximum number of passengers and you have the maximum weight per customer including luggage. Let's say this is 125 kg. This means a person of 80 kg can carry 45 kg of luggage. It also means someone weighing in at 120kg is only permitted 5kg of luggage. Now THAT's fair. And 125kg is just an example, the real number of kgs is possibly higher.

Air Canada also charges $100 extra baggage fee each way and an additional $50 handling fee each way... It's disgusting.

On top of the unfair high fees, the airlines are still quite rough with the boards, often resulting in damage that can affect the boards use at the destination.

i spend 6 months of the year travelling and know many others like me, baggage fees are ridiculous, i think as long as everything is under 20kg or the stated weight no charges should be issued.
