You should not have to pay a major proportion of the cost of your equipment to bring it with you on a plane. Particularly when others bring golf clubs and snowboards which weigh more for free.

The lack of consistency across sports equipment is unfair and discriminatory. I myself am more than happy to boycott Airlines with these kinds of policies against surfing, even when i'm not flying with my surfboard

I have officially boycotted American Airlines after they charged me 250 US$ for bodyboards from Hawaii to mainland

I spent more flying my boards to Mexico than my personal airfare costs. To top it off United Airlines damaged the boards.

i travel for surf about 10 times a year. I used to think united was a good airline, but their board policies are a deal breaker! $400 round trip board fees to central america from texas??? $300 to hawaii? I can buy a board cheaper than that! embargos to el salvador (and other central america destinations) during the summer (prime surf season) that don't allow boards period!?
I've been flying aeromexico as of late, not as good of an airline in general, but there board fees are $40 each way (5 times cheaper than united) and no embargos outweighs all of that! I'm happy to deal with layovers and sub par standards in general service at that price!

All airlines have exorbitant surfboard fees. Consider my board is only 6 ft long, weighs 6 lbs and cost the same as a 10 SUP. Whereas golf clubs can weigh up to 45 lbs with no extra fee.

I was a Delta Diamond Member and travel often for both surf and work. These fees are 100% BS!! I now try to avoid Delta at all cost.

I have 6 surfboards stored around the world; Costa Rica, Hawaii, California, France and PR because it is cheaper to buy a board then fly a board. A 50lb golf bag is free to check but a 28lb board bag cost $100 each way. this is a bit screwy. PS: I am a 1K member on 2 different airlines and earn a 6 figure income. I have money to spend and I don't use it for surfboard baggage fees!!
