I currently live in Newton and going by the mileage using the current Transport system in place it is 3.2 miles .After looking into this i noticed the walking distance is 2.9 miles the diffenence is that kids will have to walk through a park which i would see as being unsafe . Sticking to main roads that are well lit with cars and people around is much safer .From Newton it is going to take roughly 1 hour for kids to walk to school and with my local school starting at 8.45 some kids will have to leave for school around 7.30 am to be on time .I see this as unacceptable as in the winter months many kids are have to walk in the cold , wet dark mornings, and by the time they reach school could be tired cold and wet. And i see this as a health and safety issue. Also the public transport within the newton area isn't the best . I feel that the educations department has taken into account the distance some kids are going to have to walk and not all family's have a car or have someone in the household that can dive .

HIGH SCHOOL TRANSPORT MILEAGE CHANGE How many people out there in drumsagard have actually looked into the implications of the mileage change for high schools... I contacted SLC today... To be told they use the Grographical Information System Which when I gave them my postcode they advised me I was 4274 meters from school which in translation for us on what we want to know makes it 2.65 miles I am relatively near the bottom of drumsagard ... This doesn't look good unless if it is passed... Unless we can come unless with possible safety issues or the like

discraceful decision all to save a bit more money childrens safety is priority its bad enough walking the streets to the shop in this society but will be even worse having to walk just under 3 miles to school in all weather coditions there in the morning and home time

I think this is a disgrace, the children cannot be expected to walk this distance in all weather conditions.

Bloody joke get this sorted. would u walk in the pushing rain from Blantyre to Hamilton every day. Bloody joke get ur act together and get this sorted asap

There is no way a child should be expected to walk just under 3 miles to school before 8.45am then again after school home. This is not the dark ages where the streets were safe and the traffic minimal. Ludicrous. 2 mile rule should remain.
