Daylight robbery! I don't mind purchasing a licence but this cost is shocking, what does it pay for? It's just a figure plucked from the sky! So unfair to landlords! Not happy!

Shame on you Newham. Legitimate landlords are being penalised while I’m sure there are plenty of unscrupulous ones who are renting rooms out for pots of money to poor unsuspecting tenants

There are other ways of supporting the private tenants and guiding the landlords.

This landlord licence or stealth tax that is applied without common sense even to new build properties and is not pro-rated for the validity of the licence has been both cumbersome and a completely ineffective way to increase housing stock (that the Council is failing to provide) or to improve the quality of accommodation for tenants. This licence only achieves to make renting more expensive in general for the tenants and for the landlords with the Council playing no value added role. It is about time the Council is forced to scrap this licence.
