To: ABC Daytime Fans Dear Daytime Fans, Many of us remember watching a soap opera for the first time while still in grade school with a parent. Five, ten, even twenty years later we wonder why we can be drawn back into viewing. It is because we can see our favorite character from when we were a child still on screen. It is because a character gives us qualities we can relate and cheer on. It is because we see couples that can face the deepest betrayals and still manage to hold on to their love. It is because the stories give us hope, fantasy, action, and the escape we need from our busy and stressful lives. This petition is to stop ABC from the destruction of the daytime drama. We now see veteran actors, sent off without a farewell or fired because of mature age. We now see men getting away with every lie and misdeed without explanation or punishment. We now see women reduced to taking the blame for their men and used for meaningless sex instead of real equal relationships. We now see vocal actors, who voice fan desires and speak up for the mistreatment, being punished through their contracts and stories. Daytime Fans know that their favorites may not be on forever, or character persona may change. However, a daytime fan should not be forced to watch the complete annihilation of what made a character special, or a couple special. A fan should not have to endure rewrites of soap opera history to serve the purposes of short sighted writing. This petition is to unite all Daytime Drama Fans who have seen injustice on their televisions and to inform the ABC Network and Disney Co., of longtime viewers anger at the destruction of the Daytime Drama that once bonded viewers of all generations.
