I am against HR 2758.. the bill allowing WAM to sell our water from McMullen Valley. If you want water… get a desalination plant started close to the gulf and pipe that water to the overgrown communities of Phoenix. No one told people to move to Phoenix… .
While I no longer live within McMullen Valley, this is where I was born and raised, where I raised my family, and where I hope to visit in the future. Removing life giving water from this community will kill the heart of the valley.
Salome is a growing community as the Wickenburg area spreads west. Depleting our water will cripple that growth and the livelihoods of thousands of people who live here. Many who have just bought property here within the last several years, like myself.
Water "transferred" is gone forever. When water is used for crops, the excess goes back into the ground to be used again. Why should residents here lose so investors there can make money? No. Cities need to look elsewhere for their water.
You only have to look at what Denver did to towns north of it to see how this will destroy farms, rural communities and the peoples of those areas when water is ripped from them.
People live here, leave their water where it is.

I bought an acre of ground here in 2024 and plan to build in the area. That commitment is hard to make with ground water being a concern for future development in Salome. The property I purchased is serviced currently by Cactus Water and I oppose HB 2758, allowing anyone to sell our groundwater to communities outside the McMullen Valley.
